Raa, Zaay, Seen (ر ز س)

A hook shape and a row of teeth

Raa, Zaay, and Seen bring three more sounds. Raa and Zaay share a small curved hook below the line — Raa has no dot, Zaay has one dot on top. Seen has three little 'teeth' along the top and no dots at all — like a tiny row of triangles.

ر

raa (r)

A rolled or tapped 'r', like in Spanish "pero".

Say it: Raa is a small curved hook below the line, no dot. Try a light rolled "r" with the tip of the tongue.

ز

Sounds like the 'z' in "zoo".

Say it: Zaay is the same hook shape as Raa but with one dot on top. Say "z" as in "zoo".

س

seen (s)

Sounds like the 's' in "sun".

Say it: Seen has three little 'teeth' along the top, no dots. Say "s" as in "sun".

سمكة
