The six articles of faith (Iman)

Six things every Muslim believes

One day the Angel Jibril (Gabriel) came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, looking like a stranger, and asked him questions in front of the other companions — so that everyone could learn the answers together. One of his questions was: "What is Iman (faith)?" The Prophet ﷺ answered with six things every Muslim believes in: Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and Al-Qadar (that everything happens by Allah's plan, the good and the hard parts too). Believing these six things is what holds a Muslim's heart steady.

آمَنْتُ بِٱللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْآخِرِ وَٱلْقَدَرِ

Amantu billahi wa mala'ikatihi wa kutubihi wa rusulihi wal-yawmi l-akhiri wal-qadar

"I believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and Al-Qadar." A simple line a child can say to state the six articles of faith.

Say it: Read it in three gentle chunks: Amantu billahi wa mala'ikatihi (I believe in Allah and His angels) — wa kutubihi wa rusulihi (and His books and messengers) — wal-yawmi l-akhiri wal-qadar (and the Last Day and Al-Qadar). Let your child echo each chunk.
